14th-Century Stube from the Pifing Farm, South Tyrolean Folklore Museum, Dietenheim

A medieval Stube from the Urhof Pifing farm in Hafling, South Tyrol, dating to the 14th century and displayed at the folklore museum in Dietenheim.

Design characteristics

This room shows the Stube at its most basic: walls of thick, roughly worked boards, a plank ceiling, a simple table and a small window. There is no ornament, only the texture of the wood. It is a striking reference for a rustic, raw-wood mountain interior, the kind of finish that can be reproduced today with wire-brushed or reclaimed boards.
