Thorne Miniature Room: English Cottage Kitchen of the Queen Anne Period, 1702–14

A 1:12-scale Thorne Room of an English cottage kitchen of the early 1700s, with a wide hearth, a dresser of pewter and pottery, and simple oak furniture.

Design characteristics

This miniature shows the cottage kitchen that inspired generations of country style: a wide fireplace with cooking equipment, an oak dresser displaying pewter and pottery, plain plastered walls and a beamed ceiling. Its simplicity is its charm. A dresser and a hearth-like range alcove remain the two key pieces for a kitchen in this spirit.
