Carved Wood Detail Inside Broad Leys, Windermere

A close-up of a carved wooden detail inside Broad Leys, the 1898 house on Lake Windermere designed by C. F. A. Voysey.

Design characteristics

Broad Leys is one of C. F. A. Voysey's best-known Arts and Crafts houses, built in the Lake District in 1898. This close-up shows carved woodwork with a stylized, simplified profile. Voysey's designs often used a single, bold carved element on otherwise plain woodwork, a useful approach for a bracket, corbel or rail end in a country or Arts and Crafts kitchen.
