Interior of Timberline Lodge, Mount Hood, Oregon

An interior view of Timberline Lodge on Mount Hood, Oregon, built in the 1930s by Works Progress Administration craftsmen, with heavy timber framing and handcrafted furniture.

Design characteristics

Timberline Lodge was built in 1936–38 as a showcase for American craft. Its interiors combine heavy timber posts and beams, carved wood details, hand-forged iron and handmade furniture and textiles. This view shows warm wood surfaces, large windows and sturdy built-in seating. Timberline is one of the best references for a mountain interior that is rustic but refined, a style that suits ski houses across the Rockies.
