End Dresser in the Kitchen, Lanhydrock House, Cornwall

The end dresser in the Victorian kitchen at Lanhydrock House in Cornwall, a long wooden dresser with rows of plates and dishes above a drawered work surface.

Design characteristics

Lanhydrock's kitchen wing is one of the most complete Victorian service areas in England. This dresser, at the end of the kitchen, holds a large collection of serving dishes on open shelves above a long counter with drawers. It shows how a dresser can be scaled for heavy use, with deep shelves, sturdy rails and a durable work surface.
