Stickley Wainscot Treatments for Bedrooms and Living Rooms (1909)

A plate from Craftsman Homes showing two wall treatments: a bedroom with tall board-and-batten wainscot, and a living room with a paneled wainscot beside the fireplace.

Design characteristics

Stickley devoted whole chapters to wall treatments, because wood paneling was a key part of his interiors. The upper drawing shows tall vertical boards with battens, topped by a narrow shelf; the lower shows a wainscot of square panels framing a fireplace. Both are straightforward to produce today and can be finished in natural oak or paint for a lighter look.
