Stickley Fireplace with Built-in Bookcases and Panels Above (1909)

An illustration from Craftsman Homes of a living room fireplace flanked by built-in bookcases, with a wide frieze of panels above and heavy beamed ceiling.

Design characteristics

This design brings the fireplace, bookcases and wall panels into a single composition. The firebox is set in a plain masonry surround, low bookcases with glazed doors flank it, and a band of panels runs above at the height of the door heads. It is exactly the kind of wall many bungalow owners want to recreate, and it adapts easily to a modern gas fireplace or media wall.
