Stickley Dining Room Sideboard Built into a Recess (1909)

A plate from Craftsman Homes showing a sideboard built into a recess in a dining room wall, with cupboards, drawers and a window above.

Design characteristics

Built-in sideboards were standard in Craftsman dining rooms. In this design, the sideboard fills a shallow recess, with leaded-glass cupboards at either side, drawers and doors below the serving surface, and windows above to bring light onto the counter. Built-in buffets like this remain one of the most requested features in older houses and adapt easily as a coffee or wine station.
