Stickley Deep Fireside Nook and Built-in Writing Corner (1909)

An illustration from Craftsman Homes of a fireside nook recessed deeply from the living room, along with a corner fitted with a built-in desk and shelves.

Design characteristics

The upper image shows a fireside nook set back from the main room under a lower ceiling, with seats and bookshelves wrapping the fireplace. The lower image shows a living room corner turned into a work area with a built-in desk and cupboards. Both are practical ideas for today: a reading nook and a home-office corner that belong to the architecture rather than standing as separate furniture.
