Paneled Door with Scrolled Iron Hinges, Thierburg Stube
A two-panel door set into the Renaissance Stube from Thierburg Castle, hung on iron strap hinges with scrolled ends.
Design characteristics
One of the doors in the Renaissance Stube from Thierburg Castle in Tyrol, now displayed in the Tiroler Volkskunstmuseum in Innsbruck. The door is framed with two panels and sits flush within the room's unpainted wall paneling, beside a carved pilaster. Its iron strap hinges end in scrolls that spread across the face of the door, so the hardware becomes part of the decoration rather than something to hide. The same pale, unpainted wood runs across walls, doors and ceiling, which is what gives the room its unified character. Detail cropped from a photograph of the full room.
