Stickley Bungalow Fireside Nook and Kitchen Cupboards (1909)

A plate from Craftsman Homes showing a bungalow living room with a balcony and fireside nook, plus a drawing of kitchen cupboards with a work shelf under a window.

Design characteristics

The lower drawing on this page is a rare look at a Craftsman kitchen: open shelves, cupboards with plain board doors and a long work shelf under a band of windows, all designed for efficiency. The upper illustration shows the living room's fireside nook and stair. Together they show that Stickley applied the same honest carpentry to working rooms as to living rooms, which is a good guide for a kitchen that matches the rest of an Arts and Crafts house.
