Shaker Cupboard with Drawers (Index of American Design, c. 1936)
A watercolor rendering by Howard Weld of a tall Shaker case with a cupboard at the top, a bank of three drawers in the middle and double cupboard doors below.
Design characteristics
This tall case combines three kinds of storage in one unit, with drawers at counter height between cupboards above and below. The doors use the classic flat recessed panel and the drawers have simple turned knobs. It is effectively a kitchen pantry unit, and the layout works just as well today as a tall cabinet beside a refrigerator or as a freestanding pantry.
