Shaker kitchen cabinets

Utility as beauty: built-in drawer walls, peg rails, recessed-panel doors, fine proportions and no ornament.

Shaker design is ideal for modern custom work: simple joinery, clean frames and generous built-in storage. Its strength is proportion, so drawer heights, rail widths and door sizes matter more than ornament.

Kitchen cabinetry sets the character of a house more than any other woodwork. Historic kitchens rarely had continuous upper and lower cabinets; they used dressers, hutches, built-in cases and work counters, which is why period kitchens feel more like furnished rooms.
