Folding Wood Partition, Duncan House, Polymath Park (Frank Lloyd Wright)

A folding wood partition in the Duncan House at Polymath Park, Pennsylvania, used to close off a closet or room in Frank Lloyd Wright's compact plan.

Design characteristics

Mid-century houses often used folding or sliding wood partitions instead of swinging doors to save space. This one, in vertical wood panels, folds back like an accordion. Folding doors are a practical solution for closets, laundry alcoves and pantries today, and wood versions are much warmer than the vinyl ones that replaced them.
