Shaker Small Hanging Cupboard (Index of American Design, c. 1936)

A watercolor rendering by Victor F. Muollo of a small Shaker hanging cupboard with a single door and a shaped top board for hanging on a peg rail.

Design characteristics

Small Shaker cupboards were often hung from the peg rail, so they could be moved and the floor kept clear. This one has a single flat door and a shaped crest with a hole for hanging. It is a charming model for a medicine cabinet, a key cupboard in an entry or a small spice cabinet, especially in a room that already has a peg rail.
