Wall Paneling & Wainscoting · Art Deco
Lobby of the Chrysler Building, New York
The lobby of the Chrysler Building in New York, with marble walls, chrome details, a row of elevators with inlaid doors and an elaborately painted ceiling.
Design characteristics
The Chrysler Building lobby combines rich red marble walls, metal trim, indirect lighting and a ceiling mural into a single, theatrical space. The elevator bank, with its inlaid wood doors, is set into the marble like a row of jewelry cases. For residential design, the lobby suggests how stone, metal and veneered wood can be combined in a bar, entry or powder room for a Deco effect.
