Ornament Over an Interior Door, U.S. Courthouse, El Paso, Texas

Decorative detail above an interior door in the U.S. Courthouse in El Paso, Texas, photographed by Carol M. Highsmith, showing stepped Art Deco moulding.

Design characteristics

This overdoor detail uses a stepped, layered moulding typical of the 1930s, crowning a simple doorway. The design is almost entirely made of straight lines and setbacks, which makes it well suited to production in wood. A stepped head casing like this is a simple upgrade for a Deco-inspired room.
