A Georgian doorway from Chalkley Hall near Philadelphia, about 1776, with a stone surround framing a paneled wood door.
Design characteristics
Chalkley Hall was a country house in Frankford, outside Philadelphia. Its doorway, now at the Metropolitan Museum, pairs a granite frame with a paneled wood door in the formal Georgian manner, balanced and strongly framed. It is included as a reference for proportion and panel layout. The same panel arrangement also works for an interior door or a matching paneled entry wall.
