Thorne Miniature Room: English Bedchamber of the Jacobean or Stuart Period, 1603–88
A 1:12-scale Thorne Room of a 17th-century English bedchamber, with dark oak paneling of small square panels, a carved chimneypiece and a canopied bed.
Jacobean rooms were wrapped in oak paneling made of many small, square or rectangular panels, often with a carved frieze along the top and a more elaborate chimneypiece as the focal point. This miniature shows that layout clearly, along with the period's heavy carved furniture. For Tudor Revival houses, which were popular in American suburbs including Denver's Park Hill and Country Club neighborhoods in the 1920s, it is a useful reference for paneling proportions and for the dark, waxed oak finish typical of the style.
Small-square-panel oak wainscot or full-height paneling with a carved top frieze; Signature tier, Heirloom with a carved chimneypiece.
A custom version typically runs $32–$65 per sq ft of wall, shipped as a kit.
