Carved Linenfold Panel with Cross Motif

A carved oak linenfold panel, the Tudor-era motif that imitates folded cloth, here combined with a small symbol of the cross.

Linenfold carving, which imitates vertically folded fabric, was the most popular panel decoration in late medieval and Tudor England. It appears on church furniture, chests and room paneling. This panel shows the motif's crisp vertical ridges and decorative ends. Linenfold is ideal for CNC production, because the folds follow regular profiles that can be machined consistently and then refined by hand.
