King James Room Paneling, Hatfield House (photographed 1904)
A photograph by Charles Latham, published in In English Homes (1904), of the King James Room at Hatfield House in Hertfordshire, a great Jacobean house completed in 1611.
Hatfield House was built by Robert Cecil between 1607 and 1611 and remains one of the finest Jacobean interiors in England. Charles Latham's photograph of the King James Room shows its rich wall treatment: carved paneling, a monumental chimneypiece and a decorated ceiling. Latham's pictures for Country Life were widely used by architects designing Tudor and Jacobean Revival houses in Britain and America, so images like this one directly shaped the style.
Full-height Jacobean-style paneling with carved pilasters and frieze; Heirloom tier.
A custom version typically runs $65–$160 per sq ft of wall, shipped as a kit.
