Entrance Hall, Eltham Palace, London (1930s)
The circular entrance hall of Eltham Palace in southeast London, created for Stephen and Virginia Courtauld in the 1930s, lined with blackbean veneer and marquetry panels under a glass dome.
Eltham Palace combines a medieval great hall with a 1930s house, and its entrance hall is one of the most celebrated Art Deco interiors in Britain. Designed by the Swedish designer Rolf Engströmer, the room is lined with blackbean veneer panels with marquetry figures and scenes, under a concrete dome set with glass. The warm wood, curved walls and inlaid pictures show Deco at its most luxurious. Veneer and marquetry wall panels like these can be produced today with CNC-cut inlay.
Veneered wall panels with CNC-cut marquetry inlays; Heirloom tier.
A custom version typically runs $65–$160 per sq ft of wall, shipped as a kit.
