Door Hardware Detail, Hôtel Solvay, Brussels (Victor Horta)

A metal door fitting on the Hôtel Solvay in Brussels, designed by Victor Horta, with a flowing Art Nouveau form framing a bell or speaking grille.

Horta designed even small fittings for his houses, and this metal detail shows how the whiplash curve carried into hardware. Metal hardware is not part of our custom woodwork range, but details like this help set the character of doors and cabinets. Matching the sweep of a pull or escutcheon in the carved profile of a door rail is a simple way to make a custom piece feel coherent.
