Branching Log Brackets in the Old Faithful Inn

A wide view of the Old Faithful Inn's lobby structure, showing its branching lodgepole-pine brackets, log posts and balcony railings rising to the roof.

The most memorable details of the Old Faithful Inn are its gnarled, branching brackets and railings, made from naturally twisted lodgepole pine. They turn structure into ornament. Selecting and shaping branching timber is specialist work, but the same spirit can be captured in carved or assembled brackets for a mantel, range hood or stair. Heirloom-tier mountain projects often feature one such element as a focal point.
