Bench with Chip-Carved Back, Lüneburg Heath
A wooden bench near Neuenkirchen on the Lüneburg Heath in Germany, with a chip-carved back showing horses hauling felled timber.
Chip carving, in which small triangular chips are cut out to make patterns and pictures, is a folk technique shared across German-speaking Europe, including the Alpine regions. This bench back shows a narrative scene of foresters and horses. The same technique works on a mudroom bench back, a cabinet rail or a stair panel, and it is very well suited to V-bit carving on the CNC.
Entry or mudroom bench with V-carved chip-carving panel; Signature tier.
A custom version typically runs $650–$950 per linear foot, installed in Colorado.
