Shaker Bench (c. 1850)
A simple pine Shaker bench from about 1850, made to sit along the wall of a meeting room or dining hall.
Shaker benches were long, light and sturdy, designed to be moved easily and lined up against a wall under the peg rail. Their plain board construction and gently shaped ends make them a natural model for a mudroom or entry bench today. Paired with a Shaker peg rail above, a bench like this is the simplest possible mudroom: a place to sit, pegs for coats and bags, and nothing extra.
Board bench with shaped ends and optional storage drawers, plus a matching peg rail; Essential tier.
A custom version typically runs $400–$650 per linear foot, installed in Colorado.
