Federal Mantel from the Drawing Room of the Craig House, Baltimore (c. 1810)
A carved wood mantel from about 1810, from the drawing room of the Craig House in Baltimore, in the refined Federal style of the early republic.
Baltimore was a center of fine Federal-period craftsmanship. This mantel comes from a drawing room and uses the vocabulary of the period: slender columns or pilasters, a frieze divided into panels, and fine mouldings under a projecting shelf. Federal mantels are an especially good choice for houses that need a fireplace surround with presence but without bulk, including many Colonial Revival homes built in Denver and elsewhere in the early 1900s.
Paint-grade Federal mantel with paneled frieze and slim pilasters; Signature tier.
A custom version typically runs $2,200–$5,000 per mantel, shipped.
